Horseback Riding in Yellowstone National ParkThis is possibly the best ride in the Yellowstone Area! Your 2-1/2 hour ride covers diverse terrain and offers views of the Yellowstone River and surrounding Paradise Valley.

Just when you are ready to say, "what's for lunch? ", the guides take you over to the ranch house where the staff serve up beef burgers. Digest while you drive 12 miles to Gardiner for a 1:30pm raft trip on the Yellowstone River.

Yellowstone RaftingHalf Day - Yellowstone River

Our Half Day Paradise begins on the northern border of Yellowstone Park. Right where the Gardner River converges with the mighty Yellowstone River, you will find rolling waves that are fun for the whole family!
Ride the Waves at Man-Eater Hole, Boonie's Revenge and Sleeping Giant (shown in pic)! Take in the breathtaking view of Devils Slide and La Duke Hotsprings. Float through some flatwater stretches great for swimming and relaxing.

This trip is great for first time rafters or family groups with wide age and ablitity ranges. Minimum age is 5.

The total time required for the trip is about 2.5 to 3 hours. We shuttle you to and from the river.
Boats usually accommodate 8-12 people depending on size and group demands.

Yellowstone Whitewater RaftingSpend the morning paddling the "Gardiner Town Stretch" (see half day) and float further downstream into beautiful Paradise Valley. Stop on the riverside and enjoy an all you can eat smorgasboard lunch. (Deli meats, cheeses, veggies, hoagies, cookies, chips, and sodas). We happily accommodate dietary restrictions, let us know.

Your afternoon will be well spent floating the scenic and rapid Yankee Jim Canyon - the most beautiful section of the Yellowstone River!

This stretch of river offers scenic vistas, the opportunity to view wildlife, big fun splashes, and some flat water in between for relaxed floating and swimming!

Your guide carries a dry-bag for you to store whatever you might need for the day. Usually 6-10 people per raft.

Horseback Riding

Yellowstone Horseback RidingYou'll find that the sage-covered valleys and breathtaking canyons of Yellowstone seem even more impressive on horseback.

  • Minimum age required to ride is 8 years old. (8-11 years must be accompanied by an adult.)
  • Minimum height required to ride is 48" (4 feet) tall
  • Maximum guest weight permitted is 240 pounds
  • Helmets are available upon request

Canyon Lodge & Cabins 

One-Hour Ride

Available mid-June through August, this ride goes through an open meadow adjacent to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (not visible from the trail). The ride follows Cascade Creek through a wooded area and returns to the corral through a series of meadows and pine forests.

Two-Hour Ride

Available mid-June through August, this ride leaves the corral, heading into timber and crossing a large meadow and some burn area. The ride continues along the rim of the Cascade Canyon through which Cascade Creek flows. A nice view into the canyon is possible from Coyote Slide. The ride returns to the corral through a series of meadows. (Cascade Canyon is not to be confused with the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone; the Grand Canyon is not visible from the trail.)

Roosevelt Lodge & Cabins

Roosevelt Lodge in Yellowstone ParkOne-Hour Ride

Available early June through August, this ride goes through sagebrush flats along Garnet Hill. It then goes up a hill and across a stream from a view of Pleasant Valley and Hellroaring Mountain. It loops around and heads back to the corral through the other side of the Valley.

Two-Hour Ride

Available early June through August, this ride heads up a wooded hillside behind the corral. At the top of the hill, the ride goes through sagebrush flats and meadows. It then reenters a wooded area and travels along Lost Canyon and over Lost Creek. It then climbs up to and around Lost Lake, coming out by the Petrified Tree. The ride goes through Pleasant Valley on the way back to the corral.

One-Hour Ride

Available late-May to mid-September, this ride takes you on an easy trail through sagebrush flats toward Bunsen Peak.  Near the base of the mountain the trail drops down and loops around through a large aspen meadow, eventually returning to the corral.

The dinner cookouts take place in Pleasant Valley, a large meadow about three miles from Roosevelt Lodge. Guests are transported to the cookout from Roosevelt Corral via covered wagons or horses, all of which arrive at the cookout site about 6:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.

All guests are seated together at open-air picnic tables and dinner is served buffet-style under a protective canvas roof. There is entertainment at the cookout; usually a cowboy singer. All cookout guests return to the Roosevelt area between 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Guests must arrive at the Roosevelt Corral 45 minutes prior to departure.

Old West Dinner Cookout Menu

  • Steak (12 oz. serving for adults, 6 oz. for children) 
  • All-you-can-eat coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, chuck wagon corn, corn muffins, watermelon, fruit crisp, and assorted beverages.
  • Vegetarian meals can be accommodated with advance notice.

Horseback Ride to Cookout

One-Hour Ride

The one-hour ride goes through sagebrush flats (following the trail used for the regular one-hour horse ride) to the cookout site. The return ride is direct and takes about 30 minutes.

Two-Hour Ride

The 2-hour rides goes through woods, sagebrush flats, and meadows (following the trail used for the regular 2 hour horse ride) to the cookout site. The return ride is direct and takes about 30 minutes. Total time on the horse is about 2 hours.

  • Each departure time will accommodate 20 people.
  • Minimum age required to ride is 8 years old.
  • Minimum height required to ride is 48" (4 feet) tall.
  • Maximum guest weight permitted is 240 pounds.

Wagon Ride to Cookout

Ride takes 30 - 45 minutes and goes through sagebrush flats (following the same road used for the stagecoach rides) to the cookout site. The wagons are canvas-covered with padded bench seats; each wagon is drawn by two horses. There are six wagons total, each holding up to 30 people.
  • Children under five are free if they share from adult's plate and ride on a lap. Child rate applies for children under five who will have their own plate. Children 11 and under must be accompanied by someone 18 years or older. 
  • From June 7 - August 15, Guests should check in at 4:45 p.m.
  • From August 16 - August 31, guests should check in at 3:45 p.m.
